Police Officer Joseph McKinney Memphis, TN
Police Officer Joseph McKinney was shot and killed on Friday, April 12, 2024, at the age of 26. He was investigating a suspicious vehicle at the intersection of Charter Avenue and Horn Lake Road at about 2:00 am.
Memphis Police reported that two individuals were involved in a shooting incident. One of the suspects, identified as 18-year-old Jaylen Lobley, was killed. The other suspect, a 17-year-old, was also injured and is currently in critical condition.
In March 2024, Lobley was arrested for possessing a switch used in stealing a car. He admitted to stealing both an Infiniti Q50 and a Dodge Charger, which were reported stolen on March 2 and March 3, respectively.
Officer McKinney was taken to Regional One Hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Two other officers were also wounded in the incident.
McKinney had been with the Memphis Police Department for more than three years. He is survived by his wife and daughter.
